PROJECT SUMMARY: The renovation of Windward Mall’s 27-year old food court was guided by the Owner’s desire to create a comfortable gathering space for the community. The design theme of the new food court was inspired by the ‘aina (land) on which Windward Mall was built. The vibrancy and beauty of the ahupua’a (division of land) of He’eia is echoed throughout the food court in design motifs that portray the Ko’olau Mountains and Kane’ohe Bay, as well as its marine life, fish ponds, streams, springs, flowers, and fruit indigenous to the windward side of the island. Three stunning free form blue waterfall elements as the columns are central to the design theme, the landscaping features all native Hawaiian plants and the local community has enthusiastically welcomed their vibrant new gathering place.
